This issue is now solved and I can say that the app looks absolutely gorgeous on my 6.5” XS Max.
Good to see them get this out really quick.
This app is great but I really really wish they would update the app for the XS Max 6.5” screen.
Right now everything looks too zoomed and stretched that it makes the whole experience of browsing the app horrible.
Monzo have already updated their app to take full advantage of the giant screen and it’s so nice. Please fix this!!

The negative reviews are overeaxaggerated
I’ve been using starling since it’s forever and I’m very impressed and I have no negative comment to give about it honestly. I’ve had a smooth experience.
I’ve seen a few negative reviews where people are literally just complaining about the fact you need to submit a video there and then to get a password reminder. Firstly, maybe don’t forget your password right after opening an account? And secondly, it’s a security feature and no security feature is unnecessary it’s all for our benefit and protection only. Why are you complaining that your bank doesn’t want your account to be hacked? Not only is there literally no need to leave a negative review with on basis that’s no validity.
Also seen negative reviews about slow opening of an account. If there’s a delay then there’s probably a problem with your application in particular. I opening mine straight away as in I took out my phone applied and on the next screen I set everything up and most people go to through the same. There’s no need to be giving 1 star over it.
And about customer service. I’ve ALWAYS had a fast response from starling. I’ve used the phone service which is very quick, maximum 5 rings ever and this was even when they was really busy because of a serious power outages across the uk. And they’re open until late. Email service is swift too and I’m able to do things like send proof of address / change address quickly. Not like other banks who say wait 24 hours / it COULD talk longer especially on weekends/wait just to be on the safe side. Any change made to your starling account is instant and you can see so in app.
In app chat is good I usually wait 30 seconds to a minute to be connected to someone and when they’ve very busy a maximum of half an hour. And if you are needing to restart your chat every time you click out of the app, what do you expect? It’s not Facebook. You can’t stay logged in. It’s a damn bank with security features in place to protect you. But it’s not even a big issue still! Because all contact options keep a long and notes so even if you start a convo on the phone and then continue in email or chat, theyll know what’s going on and you don’t really have to repeat yourself! You can leave messages in app instead also if you don’t want to stay on the app.
These unnecessarily low rated reviews don’t need to be you going on an intense rant about something that you really ought to chill and look at properly and you don’t need to be rating 1 or 2 stars for such things. That’s just participating to ruining a good business. Sure give your opinion even if negative but don’t work yourself or anyone else up when you are misinformed and what’s happened is not 1 or 2 star worthy.
I’ve been with bad banks. I’ve been with mediocre banks and starling is by far the best. No competition. I too used that virtual bank with the bright red card but when compared to starling there’s just no point. Starling has the app features, customer service, card features, can bank in the post office now too which I’m psyched about! I don’t have to use any other bank now! I get my salary paid into starling.
This isn’t my most in depth review I just wanted to address the negative reviews.
Also I want to mention the fact statements are updated every day! Not monthly! Goodbye brick and mortar banks.
Costumer service is non existent
The app says for me to relax, it wont take long, worst case scenario will be 2 working days. 1 week passed and they sent me an e-mail saying that they couldn't open an account right now unless they change the name on the application because my name on the application does not match the name on my ID, they asked me for a first and last name on the application but on my my ID shows my full name including middle name that they don't ask in the application. So I replied to the e-mail saying that is ok for them to change my name on the application and didn't get a reply for a week, sent several e-mails and still no answer. So makes me think that if one day I have an issue I wont have a customer support at the time needed, obviously they need to hire more people if the ones working on it cant handle the amount of customers and problems they have to deal with. I know this is not the developers fault but the app is useless to me if I don't have the account opened. Yeah and now someone replies to me sorry for the inconvenience caused and our team will deal with it shortly and 3 weeks will pass and I have no account. Lucky there is plenty of concurrence to go for if I don't have my account opened this week.
