Steve Reich’s Clapping Music is a game that improves your rhythm by challenging you to play Steve Reich’s ground-breaking work – a piece of music performed entirely by clapping. Tap in time with the constantly shifting pattern, and progress through all of the variations. If you slip up or your accuracy falls too low, it’s game over.

Great app for fun and classroom

Simon Horsey

Fun to play and also useful in the classroom. I used it with Y9 when studying minimalism so students can practise at home before trying this in pairs in class.

Why aren’t the rhythms properly phased as written by Steve Reich? It runs phase 1,3.2, etc and the final phase where it should all resolve is phase 7 I.e in the middle. Fun to play but rhythmically makes no sense

Great idea, brings back memories.

As someone who studied music (percussion) but now no longer does anything to do with music in my current career, this app is a lovely little reminder of the fun I used to have with fellow colleagues. It's been some time now since I've even looked at a piece of music, but this has got the cogs going in terms of thinking about rhythm and how everything slots in together. I admittedly do still find myself tapping the clapping music rhythm round and round on the side of my plate with my knife. Anyway, really happy this app has been released - but there have been some technical glitches and I now can't open it on my iPhone 6 :(
Good luck with fixing it, I hope you do.
