About StudioTrack:
StudioTrack is a multitrack recorder and songwriting tool for musicians who want to capture musical ideas and record songs on their iPad. StudioTrack works with the iPad built-in microphone and headphones and most iPad audio interfaces (Sonoma’s GuitarJack Stage or StudioJack Mini recommended). iTunes File Sharing allows StudioTrack recordings to be downloaded to any desktop computer. Tracks can then be loaded into any recording software (DAW) to continue working on songs.

• Multitrack Recording: 8 tracks plus bounce
• Re-arrangable tracks with FX Bypass, Reverb Send, Pan, Gain, Mute, Solo, Record Arm and Track Icon
• TrackFX: Tempo-synced Delay, Compressor, Parametric EQ and Reverb Send on every track
• Calibrated Meters: Accurately monitor record and playback levels
• Calibrated Faders: Accurately adjust playback level of each track
• MasterFX: Sweeten the sound of your recordings with a compressor-limiter and a 4-band parametric EQ
• Output Compressor-Limiter: Fatten sound of the output mix
• Master Channel with Reverb Return and Stereo Output meters
• Metronome: Select tempo by number or tapping - includes pro drum recordings
• Bounce: Mix song to track 1 and 2 of a new song to record as many tracks as you want
• Mix: Save the mix as a stereo file
• AudioPaste: Paste audio to StudioTrack from over 90 AudioCopy compatible apps
• AudioCopy 3: Copy audio between AudioCopy 3 enabled apps.
• Slide-to-Record: Prevents over-writing tracks
Latency Compensation: Accurate to within 1ms
• Recording Quality: 16 bit, 44.1 kHz
• Supports both portrait and landscape iPad views
• Input Monitoring: Enable/disable input monitoring using the settings tool. Input monitoring is enabled when a track is armed and in either Pause or Record mode. Playback of existing tracks overrides input monitoring. When input monitoring is on, sliders on armed tracks are enabled and control the monitor mix.
• Bass Response Correction: When set to AUTO, this will boost the bass response of the recorded signal when using the built-in mic and headset jack, but will not affect devices connected via the dock connector.
• Monitoring through FX: Track your vocals and instruments with reverb, delay, eq, and compression non-destructively
• File Import/Export: Import by opening an audio email attachment or by dragging audio files into StudioTrack's File Sharing area under Apps in iTunes. Supports wav, mp3 and aiff. StudioTrack's Sessions folder can be dragged out of iTunes to the desktop.
• Dropbox file sharing: Upload and store your mixes and projects to your Dropbox account, then share your music by emailing download links to friends.
•Supports GuitarJack Stage, StudioJack Mini, GuitarJack Model 2, GuitarJack 2 USB and generic USB audio interfaces.

Ratings and Reviews

Not Bad

Spaceman 8

Very easy to use, great for sketch-padding ideas down, the guitar sounds aren't bad and with a bit of tweaking you can get some really good tones. Works good with Line6 Mobile-in, i haven't experienced any issues yet. The transport controls are very basic and no ability to loop or edit recorded waveforms leave it wanting from a compositional point of view.
The built in effects are simple but effective and the sound quality is very good.
With a few tweaks from the devs this could be a really good recording app but in its current form it is only useful as a musical sketch pad.
Please include audiobus soon also!
If you want a serious recording app then really nothing beats Auria, if on the other hand you just want a really simple recording app with a few effects and guitar tones thrown in then get this.

Lots of potential!

A nice interface that brings the iPad to life for recording musicians. Not the cheapest but I believe it will evolve into a really useful app in the shirt/mid term so happy to invest :)

The most useful update for 'quick n dirty' music sketches would be more loops linked into the metronome - a good range of 10-20 bpm controlled loops from straight to funky in 4/4 would help frame a song in a few seconds and allow you to focus on laying tracks down as quick as possible.

Building tracks in the external drum style apps and then copying/pasting in is fine for evolving the ideas beyond the sketch but is too convoluted for simply nailing an idea as it forms.

It would also be great to use the effects in any order. At the moment you drop in an EQ and delay is no longer available to add :( I'd happily trade a track or two for more memory on a track with extra effects. My UADs on PC have a usage meter - when you hit 99% you can't add any more effects.

Good basic functionality

Having discovered that you can connect a high quality USB microphone to the iPad using the Apple camera connection kit, I was interested to try out the iPad as a portable recording solution.

StudioTrack works well for tracking one instrument or voice at a time and has easy to use, basic mixing functions. In terms of effects, you get a compressor, EQ and reverb. You can export the mix and also the individual tracks as 16 bit WAV files via WIFI. With a decent mic, the quality is surprisingly good.

There are one or two gaps which stand out. There is no editing functionality at all - if you make a mistake, your only option is to re-record the track. There is no gain control on the input side, so getting a decent level means moving closer or further away from the microphone.

Overall I feel that this app does what it does well, although the price is a little on the high side given the limitations.
