High intensive interval training (HIIT) is one of the most effective training principle today. It combines two of best known training methods in one time-efficient way:

the first ist high-intensity training, that pushes to get a maximum effort to achieve muscle fatigue and to consume maximum oxygen in a quick burst. this is measured to one’s VO2 max, which is the highest amount of oxygen, your body consumes during exercise. Working close to your VO2 max triggers the afterburn effect, where the body continues to consume more oxygen up to 48 hours after the workout.

the second is interval training, which alternates periods of intensive effort with periodes of short breaks / low-intensity effort. This boost metabolism significantly longer than a steady workout of equal or greater length.

Nice and simple. Just does what it promises with no daft frills

VO2 max trainer


This app is an excellent training aid. I am in the military and this was introduced to us by a PTI in one of his circuits. And now I use it for cardio and weight training exercises. Either spinning, rowing or running for the full eight sections or pair up exercises like weighted lunges and press ups and alternate each time in the ten seconds rest. A revolutionary way to train and fast results are seen because of the 20 secs max effort. All instructions and info are included and it plays over your iTunes. This will open your eyes to a new way of training.

Sound issue???

Like Jibster1 I too thought I'd somehow managed to install a version without sound which is rubbish if you are using it to sprint with. I then realised that my phone was on silent!

This app does everything it says it does, nothing more nothing less, and what it does is all you need. There are no bells or whistles but there definitely is and audible beep! (just don't forget to turn your phone off silent)
