Tank Battle: East Front 1945 is the thrilling climax in the successful ‘Tank Battle: East Front’ series of games for iPhone and iPad, a game of tactical combat on the Russian Front during 1945. Fight as the Germans or the Soviets in a series of ever more complex missions.

1945 saw the end of the ‘Great Patriotic War’ as the inevitable defeat of the German’s came about. The Wehrmacht put up a desperate defense as the Red Army advanced across Poland, the Baltic States and eastern Germany. The game ends with the German’s final attempt to win the war with their super weapons in the appearance of the monster German Maus tank.

Missions vary from straightforward wipe out the enemy missions, to capture key objectives, to protecting vital supply convoys and constructing bridges to assault the enemy. There is a whole range of missions to reflect the tactical complexity on warfare on the Eastern Front.

The game system is based on, and a major upgrade of, the successful game engine developed for ‘Tank Battle: North Africa’. Tank Battle: East Front 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944 are already available from the App Store.

Ratings and Reviews

Standard mode is impossible.

This has great visual presentation, serviceable graphics and fun multiplayer, but the campaign's 'Standard' mode is needlessly punishing. Games are won through trial and error at best, or lost from the very beginning (when the enemy has overwhelming numbers and unfair damage average) at worst. Please either tone down the 'Standard' and 'Hard' difficulties, or make a guide or walkthrough for this game, none of which exist online.

Solid basic wargame.

Good mix of scenarios and units. Graphics are 'tactical' level depicting individual buildings, vehicle and squads. Graphics are accurate depictions of the vehicles they represent. Several difficulty levels - 'easy', 'quite difficult' and 'nigh impossible'. It's not a complex game (no overwatch, unit facing selection, or morale, for example) but it covers all the basics very well. I don't like havIng to 'unlock' scenarios by completing them in sequence, but otherwise, no issues. I've just completed all the 'eastern front' series and, overall, it was an enjoyable diversion from start to finish. Recommended.

Excellent game

The whole series of tank battle games has been excellent, with the Eastern Front ones being an interesting mix of scenarios set in the historical context. Only minor criticism is that a few games need to be tougher. Also great to see the original tank battle 1944 being updated with the same game mechanics.
