Great when it works as it should

I have had this app from the beginning and have experienced the odd annoyance on occasions, anything from not downloading automatically to having missing photographs that then cause it to crash before re downloading correctly. Even with the various updates these can still happen. On the bright side it's great to be able to read the paper first thing in the morning in bed without either getting dirty hands from newsprint or needing a light on should my husband still be sleeping. It is disappointing that not all stories are online. I especially like the photo galleries and being able to go back and re read news of interest again without the need to look through paper!
Since the last update the paper has crashed at least once every day. I'm also getting corrupted pages, writing appears over pictures, and some articles are impossible to read at all, on the bright side some of the adverts don't load either.
It’s now February 2018 and this app has got to the point where women the paper does automatically download it then crashes repeatedly, up to six times a day, I’ve tried deleting and reloading but nothing helps, I’m wondering if I’m the only person experiencing this problem, I keep waiting for an update.

Ignore the nay-sayers

I've been using the Telegraph apps since 2011. Version 3.x seems to have settled into a very usable experience, on iPad Pro, iPad 2017 and iPhone 6 all still using iOS 10.3. I even went to the trouble of firing up my old iPad 2/iOS9 and it still works on there, filled in the cryptic crossword no bother.
I can't decide whether the adverse reviews are from rival newspapers, the totally clueless, or people who have drastic hardware problems, but I can assure you the puzzles and everything else work perfectly well in the UK and abroad.
If the adverts irritate you (presumably due to very slow broadband) then use it in airplane mode..
I have often wondered whether some people have run out of storage space, check in Settings,General, Storage. Also if seven editions are taking up more than about 1GB you need to delete the app and reinstall.

Missing pieces from the application

Efforts have been made to improve cross referencing, but it is still not good. Other improvements;
1. Page swiping could be more reliable. There is a need to do nothing for a few seconds to allow the swipe to reset.
2. It would be nice to have an index to show which pages one has already read.
3. A back button would be nice particularly after using a link.
4. Review formating text when a larger font is selected. The lists of items on the left always exceeds the space available and does not scroll.
5. A search function should be implemented. There is nothing more annoying than knowing that you have read an article, want to show it to your partner and not being able to find it again.
6. Sometimes a page has a missing section. In order to reload it is necessary to go to another page and back then usually the whole page can be read - still occurs after reinstall (see 8 below).
7. The app takes too much power. To read the whole paper would consume more than the whole battery.
8. The app is not immune from locking up and causing the iPad to have to be restarted - this has gone away since a complete wipe clean of my iPad and reinstall everything from scratch.
