App much easier than ordering through Website
I’ve found the Tesco Groceries App. much easier to use than the website and doesn’t mean (so far) that I get items missing that have suddenly vanished from my shopping list without me realising. That had happened a few times using the website.
The app is much easier to update if you want to add something on later. There is also no waiting as you add items...there was always lag with the site and often took ages to catch up when you deleted or added an item or multiple items.
The only reason I’ve not given 5 stars is because I’m still waiting for a ‘shopping list’ option...like the website used to have before they removed it, where you can type your own list and then search for each item on that list.
That meant I could just pop round the kitchen, noting down what I needed as I went, then sitting down and doing a search. Please please bring back that handy feature!
All in all though, a really good app that works well with the iPad.
Tesco on tap
This is so easy to use, great that you can go back and amend orders too. Ideal when working to a budget as calculates as you add items to your basket. Tells you everything on offer to save you searching. Gives ideas as alternatives when your choice not available and even reminds you that you have missed out on a promotion before you checkout so you have the option to add to basket or simply continue. When you select items in your shopping list you can choose not to have them substituted or you can leave a note about what you’d prefer as alternative.i find this so useful and would be lost without it. You can choose to collect your shopping or have it delivered like I do. Time slots are able to be booked ahead or even the next day depending on availability. I would recommend this to everyone. Tesco contact you to confirm your booking too. Drivers are friendly and helpful too.😀
Not bad but ‘improvements’ made it worse
Overall the app isn’t too bad. However (and as others have mentioned) in an attempt to be clever the developer has actually made the experience worse.
The autocomplete feature of the search bar is a pain. It actually slows down the process of searching and often causes typed characters to be missed as it attempts to guess what you might be searching for. I can type ‘croissant’ accurately and efficiently myself if you don’t try to suggest everything from a cucumber to crockery as I do so (with the added bonus of helpfully truncating my input to the less than useful ‘crosnt’ in the process).
The ‘usually bought together’ pop up is also a complete annoyance. I know you might want me to buy more than I planned but I just want to order what I actually want without having to hit ‘dismiss’ on your suggestions every time I add something to the basket. The fact that some customers also bought condoms after buying whipped cream is amusing but I’m happy to remain ignorant if it allows me to buy *my* next item (scones, in case you’re interested, but you’re not, you see how that works?) more quickly.
If you want to improve the experience for your customers, just make search accurate, the interface responsive, and let them order what they want without hassling them with unwanted suggestions.
And for heaven’s sake let them mark items as favourites.
