This nifty addition to your smart phone is the easiest way to report a breakdown and the fastest way to get the AA man and his van on the way to you. Because the app can identify your exact location, you’ll be found quicker. You can also follow the AA man’s arrival time and see his van approaching on the map.

• Fuel and parking*
Whenever you’re running low on fuel, our app will help you find the cheapest place to top up. It compares and shows the prices of five different fuel stations nearby on the map, so you’ll never be out of pocket. And if you need a parking space, we know just the spot. All you have to do is set the filters for the type of parking you want – our app will show you prices and times for a variety of places nearby. Once you’ve found a space for your car, we’ll even help you remember exactly where you left it and you can set a reminder so you’ll always beat the parking warden.

• Member Benefits*
Your membership card and the benefits that come with it will also be stored within the app. That means you’ll have access to plenty of discounts on the road such as up to 20% of food and drink and Moto service stations and 20% off at a wide range of restaurants.

• Routes and traffic
We’re thrilled to be able to offer the AA’s trusty Route Planner as part of our app. If you want to, you can choose to avoid tolls, congestion charge zones and motorways and with our Traffic Watch feeding you live information about delays and incidents along the way – you’re bound to have a smooth journey. Just type in the search bar where you want to go and we'll plan your route.

• Car care
As well as being able to tell you what your cars warning lights mean and what you should do, we’ll help you to never forget the important dates in your car’s diary again. Once you’ve stored your car registration number in our app, it will automatically populate those dates and send you reminders of when your MOT, service and tax are due. But, remember to keep push notifications on!

We've been busy bees recently and have made lots of improvements we think you'll like.

If your vehicle needs some TLC, you can now easily spot the AA’s Certified Garages in our map, it’s easy: just click the icons marked with a yellow ribbon. We’ve also been working hard to make route planner better. You can now discover brilliant Member benefits when you’re on the move. Plus, we’ve made it easier to get our benefits - just follow the link and you’ll be able to book!
We’re even giving you the opportunity to share the love now - just refer a friend in the app and, if they sign up to breakdown cover, you’ll both get a £20 M&S or Amazon voucher.
Last but not least, we’ve fixed some bugs and made the app even more secure.

2nd complaint 2 years later - see last paragraph


In order to register yourself on the app you need to provide your membership number - which is fine if you have one; however, Halifax bank customers don’t get one (and I suspect there are numerous other corporate memberships too which operate the same way) and so you cannot therefore activate the app. Surely the AA should have thought this through beforehand, but regardless, why has nobody there remedied this since it was launched? Can it be that difficult to provide individual membership numbers for customers like me? Come on AA - sort it out!!!

Have now joined as a full member 2 months ago and just tried to complete my details in order to register with the app. It won't recognise my membership number or postcode ( no reason for this at all!) and says to contact the AA for help. After trawling through AA websites and finding the best number ( nothing obvious) I was finally given another number to ring for so-called App Support. They didn't " specialise" in App support and could not provide any help at all but simply told me to email the problem in. What a joke! In view of the previous issue being duly ignored I don't expect this one will get any helpful response either in which case I shall be cancelling my membership if I do not get s response to this within 48 hours. Absolutely disgusted with the poor level of service and support - basically crap!

So easy to use


I used the app for a breakdown for the first time yesterday and was amazed at how simple and quick it was. The app pinpointed my location exactly, so I didn’t need to worry about getting the address wrong. As soon as I submitted the report, the app acknowledged it. I got a phone call from the AA about ten minutes later confirming when someone would be on their way to me. The map on the app even showed me where the patrol vehicle was in relation to mine, so I knew when to expect it.

My only criticism would be that when the roadside patrolman arranged for relay for my vehicle, it didn’t show up in the app. I would have liked to have been able to track progress so I would have known how long I could have left my vehicle unattended.

Despite that, I would highly recommend this app.

Last update doesn’t give you directions on the go


I’ve been using this app for over a year, and it’s been great. However the last update for iOS 11 seems to have stopped giving you directions on the go, and just gives a map overlay of the route with your step by step directions in a black box which you have to manually swipe for the next part of journey. Which is illegal to do while driving. It no longer works like a satnav and updates as you go. It also doesn’t show you where traffic is heavy anymore. So I’m disappointed with this update as I can’t use it anymore for journeys. Please fix, and I hope the breakdown part works if I happen to break down. Edited after developer comment. That is what is broken. After you click navigate, it doesn’t work like it used to. It doesn’t navigate you and doesn’t give you traffic updates. I’ve used it for ages I know about navigate, but it isn’t working after last update

Thanks for your feedback Jakena, we’re always trying to improve our app so this feedback is really helpful. The app gives you step by step directions, you just need to press ‘navigate’ once your trip details are entered and this will take you through to directions on the go. Additionally, once you’ve entered this information it’ll show you the roads where traffic is busy. We hope this helps.
