The way you bank is changing – and so are we, with a new smile banking app.
New features include:
Log in with TouchID and FaceID
- Log in using your face or fingerprint
- Even quicker than using a passnumber, and just as secure
See more of your transactions
- View up to 13 months’ worth of transactions
- Spot your spending habits and keep on top of your finances
Clear your smile credit card
- Send money to your smile credit card directly
- No need to save your smile credit card as a payee
- Make your minimum payment, clear your balance or any amount you want easily
Plus you can:
- Easily transfer between your smile accounts
- Pay your saved payees – your saved payees will all be available on the new app
- Make one-off payments up to a total of £250 on a rolling 24-hour basis
When you log into the app for the first time, you’ll need to register your device. To do this, you’ll need the same login details you use for online banking: your username, password and security code. If you haven’t already registered for online banking, you can do this directly from the app.

CAN I USE THIS APP?
For security reasons, you’ll need a compatible device and operating system to use our mobile banking app.
You’ll need an iPhone 5s / iPad Air or newer – running iOS 8.4.1 or above.
If you are not able to update to this version, please log in to smile online banking to access your accounts.
Keeping your data secure is crucial. To protect our customers we use a range of security measures including the latest encryption technology. Independent security experts have tested the security of our app.
There are still a few things you can do to protect yourself using the app:
- Only download the app from official app stores
- Never share your login details with anyone
- When logging on in a public place, keep your details out of sight
- Always install the latest security and operating system updates
We won’t charge you for downloading or using the app. However, your mobile network provider may charge you for data use, depending on your tariff or contract. Contact your operator for details. You may also use this service when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Since our last update we have been working hard to get ready for the next big feature.
We need to make a couple of small changes to your app but don’t worry, these won’t impact your apps performance. In fact you won’t see any difference now, this will just enable us to make the next version even better for you.
Ratings and Reviews
Like a lots of other users and after several months of correct operation, I now find that I can’t long in via the app. The error message is not helpful - “The page you are looking for is not available”. Repeated attempts to login in fail. The loss of telephone banking with this very poor quality app low functionality app is making Smile’s banking offer look very poor. Have a look at Barclaycard‘s app for a great app that works. Sorry Smile - your customers aren’t smiling; you are behind the curve.
Sorry Smile, your advice below simply does NOT work. I have given up using the app; I am using the website. Fix your app, fix your tech investment, get innovation and customers will be happy and will return.

Great app, getting better with every update.
Been using smile since day 1 and the new app is great. Slow but steady/secure improvement is the best way to go.
Would love to have an option for alerting me if a debit card payment is more than a set amount or to temporarily halt card based transactions if these payments exceed a set daily/weekly amount. I had a card stolen years ago and this would have been great at the time.

It’s a very helpful and secure app. Much better than previous one, and works well. Good to have the Touch ID log in, and really easy to pay someone (eg if a friend pays an extra round you can immediately pay them, or a child calls saying the need more money it is transferred to them by you in a minute).
