The Photo Cookbook is like a private cooking course in your own kitchen with an experienced cook, who clarifies the preparation. Beautiful photography illustrates every step.
Every recipe starts with a photograph of all the ingredients. This is more than just a pretty picture or – even less helpful – a montage that is not to scale, so that a chili appears to be the same size as a whole fish. Instead, it serves as a handy way of checking that you have everything ready before you start cooking.
Each short and straightforward step is clearly explained without any jargon or difficult technical terms. What you see in the photograph is what you should expect to see in front of you. Not only is this reassuring for the novice cook, those with more experience will find it a helpful reminder of the little touches that can easily be overlooked. Each recipe ends with a lovely photograph of the finished dish, complete with any serving suggestions.

Great app, just needs more!
This app is fantastically presented, easy to use, and gorgeous to look at! I've just had a go at a couple of the recipes and they've worked out very well. Nicely selected recipes that are genuinely worthy of the "30-minute recipe" tagline and contain relatively simple ingredients to get great results (unlike some recipe books which tend to go for more obscure starting ingredients that you'd be lucky to find in any UK supermarket!). I particularly liked the way each of the ingredients are shown together in a picture at the beginning, with more information on each one if you click on the individual ingredients. One nice addition to this would be a "substitutions" section for some of the ingredients when you might not have that particular one, especially for the more east-asian-inspired dishes.
For £2.99 for the 60 recipes this is great value compared to other recipe books, hence the 5* rating. The selection available in this version (1.0) is varied and interesting enough to make my way through most of them, but with only 15 per section it does feel a bit lacking in quantity. This also includes the vegetarian section, so veggies might want to wait for future expansion; hopefully this will happen!
This is a visually stunning application with easy to follow, clear and concise instructions. The dishes are vibrant and attractive and at a culinary level which almost anyone could go ahead and cook. I don't think there is a single meal I wouldn't attempt.
The only thing I can say is please add some more recipes!
