"Learning never exhausts the mind" - Leonardo da Vinci

"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you" - B.B. King

------------------------------------------

In 1987, The Ultimate Alphabet was a publishing phenomenon. A New York Times & Sunday Times bestseller, the puzzle book featured 26 beautifully painted images, each of which jam-packed with items starting with each letter of the alphabet.

Now on the iPad it’s a fully interactive hidden object puzzle game for the next generation to get their minds in a twist over. It will keep you mentally agile and test your vocabulary and general knowledge to its limits, that’s a guarantee!

Abbey, apricot, atlas, artilleryman, ammunition, aardvark, autogyro, astrolabe, aryballos, amputee and the Egyptian god Anubis are a few examples of the 362 words you might find in the letter A.

Cryptic clues, hints and jigsaw jumbles are there to help the player with the more obscure words in the game.

The cryptic clues, which are in the crossword style, have been written by Philip Marlow and Brian Dungate. Philip is a regular setter for The Financial times, The Telegraph and The Independent.

Coins, medals and trophies are awarded for the level of achievement; this will depend on the amount of help received for completing each of the individual letters. All the words in the game have been grouped into the 45 categories ranging from Flags to Food to Mineralology and Weapons.

Absolutely brilliant to find on iPad

I have the original Ultimate Alphabet book which was bought for me as a teenager...I loved it then and still love it now. My original slightly battered and much enjoyed book came to light again a few days ago which led to the thought "Hmm! I wonder if there is an App for that"? Happily the answer was "Yes" and here I am identifying finally the things which have eluded me down the years in the A - D section. Of course I will end up buying the rest as well.
Excellent.

Pricey!

Tried the free letter A, and enjoyed the challange, but £1 per letter in the package offerings seems pretty steep for the rest. The picture isn't very zoomable, so some items are not easy to see, and the picture doesn't indicate which items are not yet done.

I've now tried the EFGH bundle. Found quite a few errors, and won't be buying any other letters. Possible exception if they ever get to S (1229 items). Quality control is not very good. As there's nothing left to do once you've found all the items, I still think the price per letter is too high. Leaderboard scoring only goes up to D.

Ultimate alphabet

Great app especially if you like a relaxing but intellectual challenge! I love the mixture of really simple easy words and then the specialised vocabulary. Also great to search out the morse, semaphore finger spelling etc.

Would love to see whole alphabet done but agree price would be a lot if bundles kept at same price.
