The Guardian described This War of Mine as "Grueling but beautiful". Now the whole experience is available on Mac App Store.

In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.

The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

Key Features:
• Inspired by real-life events
• Control your survivors and manage your shelter
• Craft weapons, alcohol, beds or stoves – anything that helps you survive
• Make decisions - an often unforgiving and emotionally difficult experience
• Randomized world and characters every time you start a new game
• Charcoal-stylized aesthetics to complement the game's theme

This War of Mine experience is now broadened with "The Little Ones" expansion. "The Little Ones" explores the hardships of wartime survival as seen from an entirely new perspective - that of a child. This DLC puts you in charge of a group of adults and children stuck in a besieged city, struggling with basic necessities. TWoM: The Little Ones focuses not only on the reality of enduring war, but also on how even in times of conflict, kids are still kids: they laugh, cry, play, and see the world differently. In addition to thinking about survival, you'll have to summon your inner child to understand how to protect the little ones. Their youth, and their future, are in your hands.

• Experience the biggest expansion to This War of Mine
• Protect innocent children
• Craft toys, play with kids, and be the caretaker they need
• Meet new adult civilians in scenarios with children

By any means necessary.

Is this a game you want to play? No. Is it a game anyone with a beating heart should play? Yes. A million times yes.

This, right here, this is what a video game as a work of art looks like.

As much fun as watching paint dry

Complete waste of money and time. I have tried for several hours to get into this game and I am clearly missing something. Maybe I am put off by the dire graphics or complete absence of any absorbing game play.

All i can say is superb.

Im 44 years old, grew up in the 80s and missed out on all this technology. Lets face it, kids of today do not know they have been born when it comes to gaming. I was once a huge fan of Playstation and had 100s of games but you know the story, got married, had kids and so had to painfully sell all my gear. My kids are now 6 and 8 and im contemplating purchasing the PS4 but as it stands at the moment, i play the odd game on my Macbook. Nothing really interested me for ages and ages and then this game came out. I was slightly hesitant due to no reviews available when i bought it but thought what the heck, its £12 so i did, and im so pleased i did. Initially, it took a while to get into it due to no instructions etc, but when i did i was absorbed. When a fantastic concept, extremely challenging but im learning all the time new things. Ive only managed to get to 17 days and the last time, Arica froze through the night when i was scavenging…..and i was gutted. I forgot to put the heating on, poor girl…she was a great scavenger as well. All i can say, im absolutely hooked on this game. I have to stick the power source on my macbook. All Macbooks users will know, once you start gaming, the battery power just disappears, but eh, thats not a problem. If you want to play something different, absorbing, challenging and actually quite upsetting to some degree (Poor Arica, fancy freezing to death sob sob) try this game out.

Brilliant, sad, addictive

This game is very gripping! Somehow ive got to day 21 and over the last 2 nights 2 of my characters died and one left due to depression and fatal wounds! It is upsetting getting so far and losing people but it was kind of a blessing in disguise as I have plenty of food then someone knocked on the door asking to stay so they became one of my characters. I definitely reccommend boarding up your windows to keep out thieves by collecting as much wood as possible. You just need to find the right balance to try and keep everyone sane, well fed, and not over tired. Personally i think the time on scavenges and through the day could go slower to give you chance to do what you need to do, if there is an update that would be great to have the option! This game is all about decision making, will you be stealhy on your scavenges and not be seen? Or will you do anything, be barbaric and kill anyone in your way just to get supplies to stay alive? Bear in mind this will have consequences on your party, I got trigger happy and took a load of homeless people on with a shot gun after they charged at me because I stole from them, killed them all (about 10 in total) and my guy didnt take it very well and ended up killing himself! Overall top game.
