Liberating and mind expanding
As a piano teacher and player, I find Tido a joyful experience.
I have been introduced to new music for myself to play which makes the modest monthly subscription fee worth it in itself.
I find the beginner repertoire selection very useful for my young pupils as we explore technique, note reading and expand their knowledge.
Tido is my immediate go to when pupils forget to bring their music. I can always find something useful to use in the lesson from Tido’s ever expanding library. Since I can download pieces into my library, it helps me to access favourites quickly, too.
I am delighted that many more of the pieces can be played, to help pupils to hear the pieces, and I am excited about the annotation option too.
All in all, Tido is the best app I have for enhancing my lessons and for my own use in exploring repertoire. It is so helpful to have the Masterclasses on pieces too. It is always useful to learn different perspectives on a piece and on technique.
Keep up the good work! I am looking forward to the new solo instruments coming on board.
Great help and inspiration
I find this app not only aids me in my learning to play but is inspirational as well. If I am unable to play the chosen piece at this moment in time, I can enjoy listening and watching professionals perform the piece.A truly wonderful ap!
I have been using TIDO as a strong component of singing lessons this term.
It is very useful to have so much exam syllabus music available without having to heave the music books around but you could do that with a download and an iPad Pro. The difference is the accompaniments.
The accompaniments play at the touch of a screen icon. The system is easier to use than the more traditional accompaniment CDs (no skipping, no more lost and scratched CDs or having to start the whole CD again to find the track) and the ‘purple fog’ (not a euphemism for the intricacies of teaching key signatures to Jemima, scourge of year 9 , but the system used to define where you are in the song as the accompaniment plays) leaves leeway for personal interpretation and rubato.
The sound on the iPad Pro is at least as good as most CD players so no contest there. Transposing is easy, and the pace can be altered while retaining the pitch.
At least half of my vocal diagnostics comes from seeing - not just hearing - what students are doing. Sometimes even when things may sound good, when you look at the student you realise that what they are doing is not sustainable or well balanced physically.
TIDO allows me to be free to watch the student instead of catching glimpses out of the corner of my eye while playing, or in the reflection on the cabinet work of an upright piano.
Using the accompaniment app, I am easily able to make notes as I go, rather than having to rely on remembering what it was I wanted to say about the performance while trying not to play all the wrong notes in the wrong order!
I am no IT tech wizard. VERY easy to download.
My library looks a bit messy and I do like tidy shelves so I would like to be able to move the books around and put them in order. A minor thing. Search is available when your iPad is online.
Looking forward to there being more music available. But a great start.
I bought an IPad Pro in order to make use of this app. Those of you who have already been using tablets for a while will realise how useful they are in the studio. For anatomy apps, warm up apps and a host of other things. I’d highly recommend the 12.9 version of the IPad for studio use. The app is only for iPad.
