More than just a dating app, Tinder has been updated to become one of the most engaging, fun and social apps around. Of course, finding matches is still a huge highlight—but with smart group chats, an awesome Apple TV app and Super Likes to go around, we’re swiping right on this one.
One date, struck gold.
I know a lot of people have really negative experiences with dating apps, and I’m also really sorry to hear about all the difficult experiences people have had with the app itself, it makes for dreadful reading. I wanted to share my own story of Tinder however, as it has a rather more positive ending.
After about a month of using the app, and some odd moments when I opened my inbox, I happened to swipe on someone who struck me as very different from the other users I had encountered. Looking back, the strange sense of fear I felt swiping right for this person, should have been an indication of how monumental that swipe would turn out to be. We matched, to my delight, and began talking. We hit it off very quickly and I realised that something was very different about this interaction.
We spoke for over a month, (I got sick) and when I eventually recovered, we agreed to meet for a date at a coffee shop. That one date changed the course of our lives. We had more dates and it became apparent that this was going somewhere, and it did. In September 2023, we got engaged, at the coffee shop where we had our first date.
This app changed both of our lives and I felt that I had to share that as there are good people out there who are genuinely interested in meeting someone. Don’t get discouraged by everything you read. True love is maybe a swipe away!

Terrible Tinder!
Tinder is ok, but doesn’t do enough in terms of narrowing down your criteria. The swipe left or right concept is genius, but there are other apps that do it better now, and let you be more specific in what you’re looking for. Also, Tinder keeps suggesting people in different countries; I can’t seem to control it. What’s all that about? That’s no good! I think I’ll be quitting it soon, and certainly won’t be using one of the paid services. UPDATE - In addition, verifying your identity is not compulsory. There seems to be a lot of fakes on there, which might explain why some people go quiet after a few messages. I have seen one or two people on other apps, which turned out to be fakes. So obviously, their Tinder profile will be fake as well. This issue happens a lot with sites/apps that offer a free service and non-compulsory identity verification. Because Tinder offers a free service, it seems to be swamped with people that sign up, but then go dead, for whatever reason. What they should do is turn off the profiles that have been inactive for around 2 or 3 weeks or more. It will cut out a lot of wasted time.
Update Sept 2023 - I have finally quit Tinder after around 10 years and won’t be going back. I am fed up with matching with people 8,000 miles away, who are most probably running scams!
