Description

New version now available! This is the classic Mk1 version of TouchOSC for older devices, please check out the new version now simply called TouchOSC on the store.

TouchOSC is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad by hexler.

It supports sending and receiving Open Sound Control and MIDI messages over Wi-Fi and CoreMIDI inter-app communication and compatible hardware.

The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the OSC or MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Renoise, Pure Data, Max/MSP/Jitter, Max for Live, OSCulator, VDMX, Resolume Avenue/Arena, Modul8, Plogue Bidule, NI Traktor, NI Reaktor, Quartz Composer, Supercollider, vvvv, Isadora and many others.

The interface provides a number of customizable touch controls to send and receive messages:

Faders / Rotary controls / Encoder controls / Push buttons / Toggle buttons / XY pads / Multi-faders / Multi-push / Multi-toggles / Multi-xy pads / LEDs / Labels / Time & battery displays

Additionally the program can send Accelerometer data. The application comes with example layouts and completely custom layouts can be constructed using the free TouchOSC Editor application.

Please see https://hexler.net/touchosc for more information, video demonstrations and download the free layout editor application for macOS, Windows and Linux and the free TouchOSC Bridge utility to easily control any MIDI-capable application on your computer.

Ugly but flexible is a little broken

Has very good potential but currently I can’t get key commands to work at all.
I’ve set up a custom drum pad for use with superior Drummer 3 and once plugged in it’s almost latency free. Very handy tool but like I say I would like to see the key commands working...

Very promising

Admittedly I’ve only used this for a couple of hours but it’s been very good so far. I was able to program a simple fader interface for my MIDI keyboard in only a couple of minutes with no problems, using the intuitive programming tool on Windows. It connected fine using the iPad camera connection and a hardware MIDI interface. I also found that there was a layout that connected via OSC to my Reaper DAW - that also seems to work fine. Looking forward to programming up something more complicated to control a multi-keyboard / expanded setup.

Incredibly flexible programmable control surface software

If you have an iPad or an iPhone you can use TouchOSC create your very own simple or complex MIDI, CC & OSC controls customised to do what you need them to do. Control your DAW, your softsynths, trigger notes or Program Change data, write automation all from your iPad (via Wifi or USB). I'm using TouchOSC to control all the above via a series of templates written to perfomr the tasks that fit my workflow. The app is regularly updated with new features, plus there's great tech support and a user forum. Definitely reccommended.
