TrainSpotting is the ultimate user-friendly app built by an enthusiast, regardless of cost, for all fellow Rail Enthusiasts!
The app contains the latest version of our database of locomotives (diesel, electric and preserved mainline steam) and Diesel and Electric Units plus increasing numbers of preserved stock. The app and database is updated frequently and distributed via very frequent app updates. App users are encouraged to contact us with anything they spot that we have missed!
You can log a sighting with just a number or you can add: date, location, a photo and notes. Or you can use the Haulage function to add complete journey information including: number, location and times of departure and arrival plus photos and notes. Ideal for RailMiles users
You can review your data in several ways: via date, location or by class. You can also import any existing data from other sources in CSV format in bulk via a spreadsheet.
This version includes many updates to the database in particular, thanks to your feedback, all stock at The Strathspey Railway. We have also added many more of your donated images - thank you.

Fantastic app for all train spotters
If your a steam, modern train spotter or other types of trains then this app is perfect for you. Holds a full history of spots at multi locations for the same number. Easily backed up to e-mail address for safety. If something is missing or incorrect then use contact e-mail address and it will be added or amended. Wouldn’t be without this app now.
Invaluable app for spotting
Fantastic app - invaluable and has all the features I need. Easy to use, with options to add as many details as you’d like (such as location, pictures, etc.). Also it’s good that data can be easily exported.
Glad you like the app - reviews like yours make all the hard work worth it! But we are still working to make it even better!
Only just installed this app. Firstly when inputting haulage I was expecting the railway station codes to be recognised e.g. MAN for Manchester Piccadilly. This really needs to be included to save typing time. Can there also be a place for headcodes where known?
First impressions not bad but I’ll reserve judgement on the price when I’ve used it a lot more.
Thank you for your feedback. We have been considering 3 letter codes for stations and are now working to incorporate it. It is not straightforward as no single source covers what we need i.e. stations including, Main line, Docklands Light Railway, stations run by London Underground and Heritage line stations. The other issue is the Apple User Interface (UI) for this kind of search only works on IOS 11 and above so we need to cater for those of you who do not use that IOS. It is coming though!
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
