No polls, no group DMs :(

The main reason I keep going back to Twitter for Mac (despite it being buggy as heck and getting buggier) is because it shows polls! I know this is probably not your fault, Tweetbot devs, but I had to install the app to find out that it lacked the feature I wanted and that kinda sucked since the app is not super cheap.

Why this is worth £14...

I've spent about £20 on Tweetbot for my iPad, Mac and iPhone. The interface is beautiful and charming, but the best thing is that performance has consistently been rock solid, and the Mute functionality is a lifesaver. But there are two really compelling reasons to spend £14 on this:

1. Everyone has Twitter follows that they make for political reasons (people from your last job, your new job, your family) but who just tweet inane irrelevance/irreverence. Tweetbot is an extremely elegant way of cutting those people out across all of your devices.

2. Developers need to get paid to keep making and creating beautiful software. There are a bunch of free Twitter clients which are good enough for most users, and so Tweetbot for Mac comes to late to make a big impact at a low price point. If we don't want Tweetbot to become the next Sparrow (much promised, lots of people bought-in, then gone forever to Google because it's not a lucrative enough business), then we should support brilliant software engineers like Tapbots.

The best around

Mainly writing this review in response to the guy banging on and on about the lack of an extended tweet function. The reason such a feature is not included, and will never be included in any future update is that the developers believe such functionality is anathema to the ethos of twitter. The forced brevity of twitter is a key component of the service and twit longer services undermines that. The very fact Ade Brown spends eight paragraphs to make a single point is proof that some people abuse generous character limits. (Not to mention that he gets the price wrong twice in the 'review').

Regardless of the merits of extended tweets, here's the rub: at no point have the developers claimed such a feature was in the app or coming to the app. So if it is so fundamental to you, perhaps you should have checked before buying.

As for my view on Tweetbot: it's the best desktop twitter client though it is cumbersome to navigate in parts. Development seems to already be in maintenance mode, which is a little disappointing but understandable given the uncertainty over the future of third-party twitter apps.
