Excellent — would be even better if day/date were more customisable
Very nice indeed. I lose track of time when working so wanted a highly customisable clock that could be made to (but didn’t have to) remain visible when other windows were opened. This is precisely that: highly customisable (size, style, colours, etc.); and it does remain visible (some others claim to but seem not to).
One REQUEST, though: it would be good to have more customisability of the format of the date, which can shown on the clock face. Currently, only the order of date, month, and year can be changed (and whether or not the day displays). It would be nice if (i) the user could choose to have the date in words, perhaps abbreviated (e.g. either “Dec” or “December” rather than “12”) and (ii) the font of both day and date could be varied (not a huge fan of the digital clock font that is used for the date).
If that were done, I’d say this were perfect! Even so, it is by some margin the most useful and presentable of the mac clocks I’ve tried.
Great functionality, shame about the design
I primarily wanted a clock that would stay on top of all my windows so I can see the time when working full screen. Some clock apps said they would do this, but they didn't. This app did, and that alone was enough to delight me initially. But I ended up downloading a different clock app because I just didn't like the design of the clock itself. Unlike some of the lesser clock apps (and I have a few now) it just looks more amateur - flat and basic. Yes, there are lots of different ways you can customise it and I liked that - especially being able to be precise about size and colour - but it's still the same clock face underneath. It kinda looks cheap. I couldn't find the square option shown in the previews. I know this sounds ridiculously picky about a simple clock app, but it was enough to make me switch.
I have been looking for a clock for some time which can sit unobtrusively on the desktop. The UBClock application has provided exactly what I needed. It has proven to be a highly configurable little timepiece which sits on the wallpaper quietly and efficiently getting on with the job.
It has a number of possible configurations, from digital through to old railway platform clock - the latter beautifully emulating the odd slightly delayed movements of the original. It was a pleasure to set up and does what it says on the box - with style.
A full 5 stars for this excellent and inexpensive application.
