Description

Have you ever gone out to eat and seen that sicker in the window that says this place received 5 out of 5 for food hygiene? Thats great! but it (currently) isn’t the law in most of the UK to display food hygiene ratings, so you could be eating out in a place with a rating of 1 and never know about it!

Businesses like restaurants, takeaways, cafes or bars aren't going to brag about getting a rating of 1 and display the hygiene rating like those who score a 5.

UK Food Hygiene helps you make decisions about the places you eat by giving you fast easy access to the Food Standards Agency rating information.

*NEW* - Apple Watch app
*NEW* - iMessage app

• Live information from the FSA for the whole of the UK.
• Supports the FHRS Scheme in England, Wales & NI and the FHIS Scheme in Scotland
• Notification centre widget for fast access to the information.
• Great in app search options to pin point what you looking for.
• Free app lets you see the first 19 results in notification centre and unlimited results in the actual app.
• Social media sharing.

The widget for notification centre will show you the ratings of the businesses closest to your current location, so there is no need to go into the app find where you are and perform a search, you can simply pull down the notification centre and see the caffe your about to go into is a go ahead 5 or i’d give it a miss 1.

The app it’s self lets you perform more detailed searches by using any of the following criteria.
• Business Name
• Street, Town, Post Code or your current location
• Business Type
• Local Authority
• Rating

You can also post results to Facebook and Twitter, get directions to the business and search for more information on google or yelp.

The app shows the 0,1,2,3,4,5 ratings for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Pass, Pass Eat Safe and Improvement required ratings for Scotland.

Discrepancies

We have just started using this app in our local area. There seems to be some variations between the ratings that are shown in the App and the ratings that are displayed by the restaurants themselves. The ones displayed by the restaurants are always higher than the ones shown in the App. Which one is the more up-to-date?

Developer Response ,

Hi, the data shown in the app comes direct from the Food Standards Agency's live database so as soon as they updated a rating it will be shown in the app. If you see a sticker in the shop window it should have the issue data written on the back so you can see if they are displaying an outdated rating.

Great but no Google reviews

Downloaded this app in preference to others because of the detail it provided for each business in terms of its hygiene assessment. Plus how this relates to assessments generally in the local area. I like the idea of combining this with Google reviews for venues as that would bring in another useful way of working out if a cafe/ restaurant was really for me. And would be in just one place. If that was sorted out I’d give this five stars.

Information often seems out of date

Possibly not the apps fault maybe just what their information source provides, but I would advise checking the dates of the ratings in each listing as many seem to be more than a few years old, and various places listed (in my area at least) that don’t exist anymore or have changed names, and often newer places are missing (though possibly not inspected yet) so overall a bit hit and miss

Developer Response ,

Hi yes unfortunately we get our data from the FSA and if that information is out of date it’s because they haven’t updated their database. We have now added a button so you can report incorrect information to the relevant local authority.

Thanks for using our app
