United Airlines 4+

I fly back and forth between London and Newark several times a year and haven’t flown with another airline in years. I was a Continental customer before it merged with United and I’m pretty sure that most of my flights are still with Continental staff. Whether I fly alone or with family I like the familiarity, the service and now, the occasional free upgrade to Economy Plus. I find the staff friendly and exceptionally proactive in sitting out any occasional difficulties.

The only thing that lets United down most of the time is very poor catering. The food is usually awful. An Indian vegetarian meal is not served with a steamed naan and chutney. It’s served with the sides that accompany the other meals. The one exception to this in the past few years was a vegetarian red Thai curry I had on the Heathrow to Newark flight last week. Nevertheless, I am a generally happy United customer.

Not sure why this app receives so many negative reviews as it is much better in every regard than the apps offered by other top airlines. The app also gives you far more info than other airlines and is very easy to use.

It seems that most negative reviews are about United’s on board WiFi pricing which might be expensive but, it’s Internet on an aircraft via satellite so it’s going to be expensive until the technology becomes cheaper. The pricing of WiFi is not a factor of the app but rather of United.

Would definitely say one of the best airline apps.

It would be helpful if United Airlines could state explicitly and simply the baggage allowances that are included in the price for each class of ticket I believed that the price of my United Economy ticket, which was not purchased with air miles, entitled me to check a bag, but while using the app to check in, I find that I’m being asked to pay $60 to check a bag in. The United app does not lay out the information that I require and I have yet to find any contact point at United where I can have my question answered. I am concerned that if I leave my question until I’m at the check-in desk, I may be charged excessively, though it’s more likely that the lack of clarity will lead me to restrict myself to hand luggage only, even though I believe my ticket price should include the cost of checking in a bag.
