Setting up to connect to Virgin Media WiFi hotspots is easy. If you’re a Virgin Media broadband customer, just use your ‘My Virgin Media’ username and password to enjoy the service. If you’re a Virgin Mobile customer, we will automatically verify you once we’ve checked that you have a Virgin Mobile SIM.

Then, every time you’re within range of a Virgin Media hotspot, you’ll automatically connect to it. You’ll stay connected in more places on the move while saving your mobile data allowance, and you can check out the handy map within the app to find your nearest locations.

Get access to thousands of free WiFi hotspots in lots of your favourite places across the UK such as Pizza Express, Caffé Nero, Pret a Manger, Wagamama, WHSmith, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, plus selected shopping centres.

And that’s not all: stay connected in UK airports (including London Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow International), and on the platforms of more than 250 London Underground stations.

We’ve resolved an issue where app users may have been unable to connect to our WiFi hotspots. If you haven’t recently done so, just set up again by --> opening the app's menu --> Settings --> Setup auto-connect and follow the simple steps. This should reconnect you to our hotspots again while you’re out and about. What a mess


Frequent messages saying I need to reset up the app because of ‘problems’. Frequently set up again each time was not easy and required several attempts. The last time - safari displayed a request to login to website I had never heard of so battled through the virgin mobile pick a number customer support line. Finally got to a human who could not help me except to say you need to follow the instructions in the email and then said she would put me through to virgin Media support but instantly cut me off. Rang 150 and of course the pick a number contest did not have an app help option so eventually tried ‘problem with broadband lucky dip’ which after testing my equipment unsurprisingly said there wasn’t a problem and cut me off. Just wasted One hour of my time I think I will leave virgin media

Much improved — works quite well now


A mysterious message that used to come up ‘Error: SIM not accepted’ has been resolved by an update and the app seems to work alright now, albeit a little slowly. However, sometimes a dialogue box will come up prompting me to ‘log in’ to Virgin WiFi: which is perplexing, since I don’t know of any password, and anyway I thought the whole point of the app was to log the user in automatically.

Improving - but still not as good as it should be


The new profile released in December is slightly more reliable but I still found the phone frequently connected to the VirginMedia SSID but not able to pass any traffic, or only parts of webpages.
My solution has been to disable auto-connect in Wifi preferences for VirginMedia, which means I can still connect manually when needed and automatically still to The Cloud (which works reliably)
