The Virgin TV Control app means you can control your TiVo or Virgin TV V6 box from anywhere in the world, wherever you have an internet connection with WiFi, 3G or 4G.

As a Virgin TV customer, this app lets you:

• Manage your recordings – set up a Series Link+ from anywhere in the world when you’re connected to the internet
• Control your TV – if your TiVo box is connected to the same home network as your device you can turn your mobile or tablet into a handy remote control
• Speed up the way you search and browse – search using your device’s QWERTY keypad instead of the remote
• If you have a Virgin TV V6 box powered by TiVo you can stream selected recordings to your device
• The app connects directly to your TiVo or Virgin TV V6 box so that you can see if there is a recording clash or storage space is low

What you need

• Be a Virgin TV customer
• An iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, running iOS 8 or later, with WiFi, 3G or 4G internet access
• Your My Virgin Media username and password

For security reasons, and to protect the rights of our content partners, the Virgin TV Control app cannot be used on jailbroken devices, where unauthorised modifications have been made to the operating system.

Another step backwards

When I first joined Virgin Media, there was one app which allowed you to control the TV, record shows and watch live or recorded programmes on your TV, iPhone or iPad as long as you were on the same WiFi as your box.

Now there are 2 apps, one for live TV anywhere, which is low-res even if you’re on your home WiFi, and this app, which basically just lets you set recordings when you’re not at home/watching your box.

I see the usefulness of both those things, but to split that across 2 apps AND remove the most useful feature (watching recordings on another device) is just making things more complex and less useful. It’s a step backwards and basically means I never use either app.

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. When we launched our new V6 box we needed to launch a new app that would interact with that box. The TV Go app starts at a lower resolution but as it detects your wifi or mobile signal, the quality should improve if it detects a strong connection. We hope to improve functionality of the TV Go app in the future to be able to do more things.

It took 8 months but finally...

At last! Everybody was complaining and I even resorted to emailing VM’s CEO, twice about this wretched app.
God only knows why it took 8 months to undo a connection delay deliberately introduced in the first place. I bet there are many users out there who won’t even know there’s a fix as they would have given up using the app months ago. I just stumbled across it myself.

I’m still very grateful for the fix. It was a truly appalling situation.

It’s now usable

If you’d have asked me 2 months ago I would have rated this app 1 star due to the time taken to connect to each box. 40+ seconds.
Now with the latest update it’s brilliant almost instant to start the app and switch boxes thank you virgin media for addressing this finally
