Created with the NHS and the UK's Department of Health, The Walk helps you walk more, every single day. When you’re playing The Walk, every step counts.
A bomb explodes in Inverness station, and you’re given a package that could save the world. To stay alive, you’ll need to walk the length of the UK. The Walk is more than just a great pedometer/step counter — it's a way to turn walking into a journey, a challenge, and a rip-roaring adventure.
Made by Six to Start and Naomi Alderman, creators of the world’s most popular running game with over 800,000 players, Zombies, Run!
ENGADGET - “Simple, fun, effective.”
JOYSTIQ - "Spices up your step-tracking with some danger and intrigue.”
BBC NEWS - “Encourages users to walk 10,000 steps-a-day to help improve their health”
LIFEHACKER - “You're motivated to actually get up and move around so you can progress further into the story, and it works really well.”
AWESOME ACTIVITY TRACKER
Just put your phone in your pocket or purse and we’ll track every walk and run you take — and map it, too!
You’ll walk the length of the UK while evading capture by the police and enemy agents. Can you work out who set off that bomb in the first place and what their plan is? Get ready for an epic adventure across 65 episodes, 800 minutes of audio, and hundreds of miles.
Get rewarded for walking more by collecting clues, scanning for information, and unlocking achievements.
The Walk adjusts its difficulty based on individual fitness levels. Everyone’s different, and we make sure we give you the right level of challenge!
OPTIMISED FOR M7 IN IPHONE 5S
Got the iPhone 5s? Then you’ll love The Walk — we use the M7 to count your steps even more accurately and with even less battery usage.
- Requires iOS 7. Works on iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod Touch 5th gen.
- Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The Walk uses your phone’s accelerometer to measure your movement, and primarily uses wifi and cell towers to track location. We also use GPS sparingly when for tracking your walking routes.
- To maintain constant tracking, you’ll need to have ‘Background App Refresh’ set to ON for The Walk (Settings > General > Background App Refresh)

What's New in Version 1.2
The thrilling story continues in this massive Part 2 update, which adds all 65 maps covering 51 episodes, 14 challenges and over 800 minutes of audio content.
I was expecting to walk along listening to an engaging story. Instead I got complete silence until I realised I was supposed to tap the speaker icon. After about a minute it was back to more silence. I got what I thought was a text alert, so stopped walking, wrestled my phone from my pocket and found it was just the app telling me the next part of the story had been unlocked. From there I had to do a couple more taps... only to hear the same audio again.
As other reviewers have said, the story doesn't automatically continue once you unlock a bit. Each time you have to faff about with your phone and in between time you hear nothing. I felt silly, walking along wearing earphones that had nothing coming out of them.
I wish I hadn't bothered paying for this. I want to walk without having to get my phone out every couple of minutes. I'll be sticking with the other walking/pedometer apps that do their jobs effectively and cost nothing.
When's the sequel?
The Walk is an amazing app. The story is expertly crafted and well written and constantly made me want to continue walking and find out more of the story.
However, there are several negative points to address. The walking for about 10 minutes for about one minute of story seems like a rough deal and many of the episodes seem like padding and don't really add anything to the story at all. Nothing is achieved or discovered until about the final story segment and then the game'll throw another of the infernal "Challenge Modes". Which give you 24 hours to find a large number of certain things that really are not of consequence.
However, despite all this, the story and atmosphere overweigh the downsides and I am very excited for the sequel that I dearly hope is in production.
Makes me want to walk further!
I love this! I'm recovering from an illness and was struggling to get active & this has helped greatly.
Ok, it can be a bit cumbersome listening 'in the field' but it suits me best just doing the walking then listening at my convenience. At the end of the day, the App's purpose is to get you walking more & it definitely does this-I am enjoying the story n think the characters are mostly well acted. I check how long I've got to walk to unlock the next couple of segments or whatever & whilst the challenge episodes are frustratingly boring, I find I walk a bit more to move forward to an interesting one. Well done, keep it up & get walking!!!
