General bug fixes
Great App with a few flaws
This would easily get 5 stars except there are a few major flaws with it. As such I have marked it very harshly with 1 star as I think that a certain issue should already have been dealt with. The first one (and the reason for only 1 star) is that the app is not optimised for iPhone 6 or 6+. I find this pretty unforgivable now as most other mainstream apps have been converted. It means you have very little visibility of the road ahead even when zoomed out a fair distance.
Secondly I really don't like the fact that it tries to take you on an alternative route without any explanation as to why.
Other bugs I have with it are that some messages aren't reported via audio and just appear on the screen (e.g. Delay ahead). Admittedly I have the audio set to alert only for my usual commute however I would expect messages like these to be treated as alerts. I also don't like the drive summary screen at the start of a journey as its not clear what issues are currently present on the route. Nor the screen used when selecting alternative routes as they expect a lot of road knowledge (e.g. Journey 1 via A6103, Journey 2 via A6103, A57). I think the last 2 issues could be resolved if the app was optimised to use the full resolution of the new iPhones.
Good app but needs some further development
I would like to point out to a major tool that is missing in this app which is the Itinerary Planning and a GoVia. For people crossing the country, visiting sight seeings, for taxi drivers and other driving professionals this tool is a MUST. This alone takes 2 stars off no matter how good the rest of the app is. There are a lot of alternative apps and I agree that this one has gone one step further by introducing community updates. It could also have a soft button on the screen with an option to toggle some particular alerts on and off as some can really clatter the whole map especially in bigger cities.
One other very useful feature I am hoping to see is a friend locator where at a click of a button it would locate or at least send a request to your friend for its current coordinates.
Without these features this app won't stand out as much in this big competitive market. As being a programmer myself I know that adding these features in is a piece of cake comparing to what's been done so far to make this app of what it is today.
As in some previous posts was mentioned this app is heavily relying on internet connection. I'm hoping to see in future an option to download maps directly onto your device to break that dependency and allow users to find this app as a great competitor to major brands like Tomtom etc.
First tried this out on a trip which took us part way ACW round the M25 (UK).
We could tell from the road information signs that we were heading for long delays between J3 and the Dartford Crossing, but we were given better constant updates via Waze, including the more significant fact that the traffic was at a standstill.
On approaching J3 Waze directed us off the M25 and thru Dartford town, even on this diversion it was guiding us around the congested diverted traffic. We went along by-roads only suitable for cars avoiding the commercial traffic. Moreover no cars seemed to be on our route either. All the more surprising as we rejoined the motorway within yards of the Tunnels!
Absolutely brilliant and all for free!!!
