I love this app. It allows me to track the improvement from interventions and gives me pointers to help with the weak areas. I use it all the time. Children love doing it. I might suggest losing the words "reading age" and losing the burp sound which is fun but alerts students to a wrong answer but even with those... I wouldn't be without it. I am concerned that this app won't. E updated to 64 bit from 32 bit and therefore I won't be able to use it after IOS 11?
Won't work on my IPhone 6s
I purchased the nessy bundle however this particular app won't even open
Great app but lose the words reading age?
A great little app for easily taking a quick reading level as part of a wider assessment, or a great way of tracking progress. More fun than other reading tests. Particularly like the assessment at the end explaining with phonics/patterns/reading areas were a sticking point for the reader. Like the way it enables the student to track their progress.
But why oh why call it my reading age? Nothing is more sole destroying than being told you have a reading age of a 7 year old when you are 11 or 12. (Or even 8 years old!!!!). Being given a raw reading age can really stick in a child's mind. Why not give a score in Nessy nuggets or something, then next time they went back, in say 6 months, they could see they had improved.
Improving your reading is what counts.
If a teacher is really determined to see reading as an age than provide a conversion table.
I realise that a reading age is often a way to readily highlight difficulties but I know many dyslexic children who have been very upset by being given a low reading age and have taken tis information to heart and have mulled on it for years.
Many adults have a reading age of well below 14.
We don't present achievement in maths in such an insensitive way - could you imagine being told you had the maths ability of a 5 year old!
So love the app but please find a way of presenting it with the option of losing the age, and seeing it as achievement..
A child may well put a year on their reading age in 6 months, but if you present it as a reading age they don't hear the progress they just hear the low age.
Just to add I tested the app out on a couple of my more confident pupils, one loved it when Nessy burped so would get the questions wrong on purpose, the other pressed the wrong button in error and we couldn't go back and alter it.
Love Nessy stuff especially tables of doom.
