Witch allows you to switch directly between not only applications (as you can do with Command-Tab), but windows as well. Instead of switching applications first, then windows, use Witch to switch directly to your desired window. If you're coming to the Mac from Windows, you'll find Witch a natural-feeling replacement for Windows' ability to switch directly to windows.
• Witch earned a very-rare perfect five-mouse rating from Macworld: "...Witch is easily one of the most useful utilities on my Macs."
You can even define global hot keys for useful tasks such as releasing or closing all minimized windows, or zooming the frontmost window.
As you can see from the screenshots, Witch has a ton of customization options, none of which are required, but all of which can help make Witch work exactly as you want it to work.
Witch was recently recognized as one of Macworld's Mac Gems of the Year for 2010.
◆◆ NOTE: You do *not* have to leave the Witch application running to use Witch.
The first time you quit Witch, a dialog will appear asking if you'd like Witch to run in the background. Say yes, and you can then switch away without seeing Witch in the Dock. You can access the settings panel at any time by either double-clicking the application, or by pressing comma while the Witch panel is onscreen. ◆◆
• Fixed an issue where Witch couldn't be enabled under certain circumstances.
• Modernized Witch's user interface ever so slightly.
• This version of Witch no longer supports listing and switching to windows on other Spaces.
Ratings and Reviews
Nice, close to brilliant
Nice app, works well and makes life easier for those of us who switch between Windows & Mac (oddly enough, there are elemenets of Windows that are actually better than Mac OSX!!!)
Don't know if this is even technically possible but it would be even better if it could recognise the tabs in the popular browsers and allow you to switch between them.
Also a touch expensive for what it does - even at their 'on sale' price. I'd have thought a price of $5/£3 would be closer to the mark
Does what it says on the can
This app does what it claims and does it well. It has been going a long time and should be updated for El Captain, otherwise I have no complaints.
Slow and buggy
Even if I set Witch to appear instantly when pressing cmd+tab, it sometimes takes over 3 seconds to appear. This isn’t acceptable as a replacement for the native cmd+tab interface. Also, the native cmd+tab view appears on top of Witch, then it all goes crazy and finder crashes. Not happy, trying to get a refund.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
