Remember the Star Trek computer? It's finally happening--with Wolfram|Alpha. Building on 25 years of development led by Stephen Wolfram, Wolfram|Alpha has rapidly become the world's definitive source for instant expert knowledge and computation.
Across thousands of domains--with more continually added--Wolfram|Alpha uses its vast collection of algorithms and data to compute answers and generate reports for you.
Parts of Wolfram|Alpha are used in the Apple Siri Assistant; this app gives you access to the full power of the Wolfram|Alpha computational knowledge engine. Domains covered by Wolfram|Alpha include:
STATISTICS & DATA ANALYSIS
Electricity & Magnetism
Animals & Plants
DNA Sequence Lookup
UNITS & MEASURES
DATES & TIMES
Current & Historical Weather
PLACES & GEOGRAPHY
PEOPLE & HISTORY
Historical Events, Periods & Countries
CULTURE & MEDIA

Ratings and Reviews
Forget it if you don’t live in the USA
It’s a very clever app, and useful for mathematical, and some technical topics, but for much other information stick with Google/Siri if you don’t live in the USA.
An example of US bias is that when I wanted some statistics relating to Scotland I was offered data relating to several US cities called “Scotland”, but no way I could find to obtain results for the country. I wish I had read some reviews rather than allow myself to be impressed by the trial version; £2.99 wasn’t a great outlay, but I wish I hadn’t made it. The description in the App Store ought to include a warning that the data is very heavily US-biased.
Even the maths is in places flawed; I have found that it tries to interpret some trigonometric expressions that out to either be invalid (eg involving x/0), or should produce a zero answer to provide odd results.
Brilliant for learning integral tricks and much more.
I have often learned a lot from trying to compute more complicated analytical integrals. If you click on the icon “show all steps” you might be amazed how well the this app explains some variable substitutions you might have never guessed. Doing this often enough I felt sometimes compelled to try cracking integrals on foot like in the old days.
I just wished it would not so often peter out and run out of time, and then ask me to try the pro version.
Warning to non-US citizens!
I can only repeat my feedback to the developer:
"Whilst I love the concept of your app, and am trying to temper my remarks in proportion to the comparatively low cost of the app, I have to say that my initial use leads me to say that you really should be open in your app information about how USA-centric the raw data held by the app is.
I live in the UK and found answers given to simple queries like 'average UK salary' extremely annoying.
If you are going to market this app worldwide, then PLEASE recognise that there ARE other communities outside the USA!
For now, some sort of warning for non-US residents should be given in the marketing information.
Having said that, I acknowledge that for 'pure' data manipulation, it is brilliant!"
Three years on and several updates later, and the query “Average UK salary” STILL gives the average US salary as the result! But now, it helpfully also converts this to UK pounds!! 🙄
