About Alex Cline
Jazz drummer and percussionist Alex Cline began playing professionally in the 1970s. The groups Duo Infinity, the Julius Hemphill Trio, and Spiral reflected Cline’s interest in free jazz and fusion. Quartet Music, an ensemble Cline formed with his guitarist brother Nels, toured and recorded successfully for 11 years. Cline’s first solo album, 1982’s NOT ALONE, was a double album of percussion music, followed by THE LAMP AND THE STAR in 1987. With the Alex Cline ensemble he released a series of fine modern creative recordings, including 2000’s THE OTHER SHORE. Cline sustains his solo projects while collaborating widely with other musicians, dance companies, and visual artists, and while working as a session musician.
