About Bamboo

The lush, colorful music created by London-based duo Bamboo is influenced by Japanese and Korean folk tales as well as art-pop visionaries such as Kate Bush and Yellow Magic Orchestra. The project was founded in 2014 by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Rachel Norwood (Trash Kit, Halo Halo) and producer Nick Carlisle (Peepholes, Don't Argue, the Feline Dream). Blending swirling electronic textures with banjos, marimbas, and Norwood's otherworldly vocals, Bamboo's debut album, Prince Pansori Priestess, was released by Upset! The Rhythm in 2015. The full-length included a cover of "Sangokushi Love Theme," written by YMO's Haruomi Hosono. Following 2016 EP Live at Café OTO (which was included on the CD issue of Prince Pansori Priestess), Bamboo's more uptempo second full-length, The Dragon Flies Away, was released on cassette by Crumb Cabin. The album was given a wider release by Upset! The Rhythm the following year. ~ Paul Simpson
