About Clare Hammond

An advocate of modernist and contemporary piano music, Clare Hammond has distinguished herself through her unusual repertoire, which includes seldom-played keyboard works by important but overlooked composers. She has given recitals in England, notably at Wigmore Hall for the BBC, as well as across Europe, and given premieres of many new works, including compositions by Kenneth Hesketh, Robert Saxton, and David Matthews. Her participation in the 2014 centenary of Andrzej Panufnik brought her international recognition, and her album, Reflections: The Solo Piano Music of Andrzej and Roxanna Panufnik marked her debut on the BIS label. Her involvement with Panufnik's music led her to co-curate a chamber series with the Brodsky Quartet at King's Palace in London, and she performed at Warsaw's Chopin and his Europe Festival and the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music. Continuing her exploration of seldom-played music, Hammond recorded a second album titled Étude, featuring piano studies by Sergey Lyapunov, Unsuk Chin, Karol Szymanowski, and Nikolai Kapustin. ~ Blair Sanderson
