A veteran composer for TV and film who moonlights as a country singer/songwriter, Eban Schletter wrote his first movie score as a child. After penning the orchestration for a series of homemade films, Schletter then took an interest in percussion and began drumming for punk bands in the San Francisco area. He joined Stone Fox in 1989, donning women's attire and an alias ("Debbie") to help preserve the band's "all girl" façade. Although he left the lineup in 1991 to study law at the University of San Francisco, music soon returned to the forefront as Schletter found it difficult to secure work as a lawyer in Southern California. He did, however, land a job composing music for an HBO series, Mr. Show with Bob and David, for which he earned an Emmy nomination. Ditching the law degree, Schletter funneled all of his energy into composition and began writing material for both movies and television programs, including Spongebob Squarepants. Schletter's actual playing was also in demand, and he made an appearance on Tool's Ænima in 1996 while launching his own solo career. Much of Schletter's solo material displays a strong country influence, but he also explores several different styles, most notably during Eban Schletter's Witching Hour. ~ Andrew Leahey
