About Eddie & The Hot Rods

Arriving during the waning days of pub rock, Eddie & the Hot Rods helped usher in punk rock in the United Kingdom. The Hot Rods were faster, tougher, and louder than any other pub rock band, and their no-frills attack paved the way for acts like the Damned and the Sex Pistols, though they had no use for the social or political statements of many punk bands. They hit the charts with their 1976 debut EP Live at the Marquee and the singles "Teenage Depression" and "Do Anything You Wanna Do," but by the summer of 1977, their bar band demeanor had already begun to appear outdated. They disbanded in 1980, but returned to active duty in the '90s, and even the death of frontman Barrie Masters in 2019 failed to stop them, with a new lineup issuing Guardians of the Legacy in 2023.
