Singer Roddy Woomble achieved recognition in the late '90s and early 2000s as the frontman for Scottish rock band Idlewild, which released a handful of albums before Woomble chose to explore his options as a solo artist. His acoustic folk was the flipside of Idlewild's indie rock, with albums such as 2006's My Secret of Silence topping the U.K. folk charts. Woomble would split his time between Idlewild and his solo career, sonically moving between acoustic folk and more experimental sounds, as on 2021's Lo! Soul.
