About Rodney Crowell

Fusing the sensibility of the Texas singer/songwriter community with a sound that honored country's past while adding a rock & roll punch, Rodney Crowell first enjoyed success as a writer and a sideman. He spent three years as part of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, and penned a handful of tunes for the vocalist as well as others. Crowell finally enjoyed a commercial breakthrough with the 1988 album Diamonds & Dirt. 1992's Life Is Messy and 2001's The Houston Kid found him moving into more personal territory, and as he stepped from the major labels to independent imprints, he pleased both critics and fans with smart and insightful releases such as 2014's Tarpaper Sky and 2017's Close Ties.
