About The Pioneers
One of the most distinguished vocal harmony groups in early reggae, the Pioneers, made up of brothers Derrick and Sidney Crooks, and Glen Adams, formed in 1962. Their debut single, "Sometime," was recorded for Leslie Kong’s Beverley’s label in 1965. In 1968, they teamed up with producer Joe Gibbs, topping the Jamaican charts with "Gimme Little Loving" and "Long Shot." Further successes included "Dem A Laugh," "No Dope Me Pony," "Catch The Beat," and "Mama Look Deh." They later teamed up with Desmond Dekker’s brother, George Agard, releasing their iconic skinhead anthem, "Long Shot Kick De Bucket," and the Jamaican chart-topper "Easy Come Easy Go." Their greatest success came with the Jimmy Cliff-penned "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah," which in 1971 reached the U.K. number 5 chart position.
