Stephanie Cole (Doc Martin), Benedict Cumberbatch, and Roger Allam (The Thick of It) star in the complete second series of the hit sitcom about the pilots of a tiny charter airline for whom no job is too small, but many, many jobs are too difficult. Run by the forbidding divorcée Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (an unfortunate marriage, namewise, but in Carolyn's opinion, marginally better than Carolyn Shappey-Knapp), her two pilots are the smooth, experienced, and almost-certainly-fired-by-a-big-airline-for-all-around naughtiness Douglas, and struggling, almost competent Martin. All-round help is provided by Carolyn's near-idiot son, Arthur. Written by John Finnemore, writer for The News Quiz and That Mitchell & Webb Sound.
Really, really wonderful. A complete joy to listen to, beautifully written, with lines I keep trying to crowbar into conversation (bit hard that, some are quite specific, but I'm used to the odd looks now). Genuinely can't wait for series three!
Simply classic - but we need more.
If you only buy one audiobook ever - buy all 2 series. Simply classic - but we need more.
Sublime, sublime, sublime
So beautifully written, original, clever that I wish John Finnemore could carry on turning out series after series for ever. Perfectly character-driven without ever descending to stereotype. I'm a particular fan of Carolyn - at last an older, bossy woman in a sitcom who is not a pure figure of fun but someone we sympathise with; Douglas is endlessly surprising; Benedict Cumberbatch's turn as the self-important "red-faced little man" Martin rescues him from the romantic lead rut he's in danger of entering; and Arthur - Arthur was surely sent from heaven...I love them all and especially the games for dealing with long boring flights - e.g. "names that sound evil though they aren't".
I need a CD of all 3 series please to give to my aged parents who don't do MP3 players but do have a CD player!!! Please! NOW!!
