Description

The number-one international best seller - and the Grammy-award winner for best spoken album in 2006. Before Barack Obama became a politician, he was, among other things, a writer. Dreams from My Father is a masterpiece: a refreshing, revealing portrait of a young man asking the big questions about identity and belonging. The son of a black African father and a white American mother, Obama recounts an emotional odyssey. He retraces the migration of his mother's family from Kansas to Hawaii, then to his childhood home in Indonesia. Finally he travels to Kenya, where he confronts the bitter truth of his father's life and at last reconciles his divided inheritance.

Superb

A superb story, read by an excellent orator. Why buy the book when you can have the man himself on your i-pod?

A truly emotive and encapsulating story

I would never normally be bothered to review anything online. However after listening to this audiobook I felt I had to express somewhere, anywhere, just how much I enjoyed this emotional story of Barack Obama's early life. Starting from when he is just a small boy in Indonesia to eventually visiting the birthplace of his Father in Kenya in the summer before attending Harvard Law School. The book, read by the man himself, is full of anecdotes throughout his life relating to race, equality and American ideology whilst focusing on his views and beliefs on these subjects. Furthermore, he elaborates how these views have changed in this time. The book follows a young man confused about not only his heritage but also his identity and, I feel, represents the story of thousands of Americans of this generation.
I believe this book is for any one, regardless of nationality, age, gender or education and it holds important messages for all walks of life. Therefore, I 100% recommend this book to everyone!
