Nemesis (Unabridged)

by Agatha Christie

In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr Rafiel, an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. Recognising in Miss Marple a natural flair for justice, Mr Rafiel had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing.

What a struggle

I am an avid audiobook and radio drama listener and have a number of audiobooks on my iPad. However, this one is a real struggle. The lovely Joan Hickson, who played Miss Marple for many years, is the narrator and seems an obvious choice. However, I find her voice very difficult to listen to much of the time. She is very 'RP' which in itself is OK, but at times her accent is so 'refained' that it is difficult to catch what she's saying. She also tends to gabble some bits and drops her voice regularly so I strain to catch her words. I'm part way through and am afraid I've given up. Will buy the BBC dramatised version, with June Whitfield instead, to get to the end.
