I loved reading this book in paperback as well as the rest of the series. In audio I found the accent disconcerting at first as well as some of the name pronunciations and wondered if i had made a mistake but it didn't take long to adjust as it is well read with good variation in tone and pace, I will be gradually buying the whole series.

Wow are these self published / audioed?

This book is really bad. The characters really wooden, their motivations are completely unexplained and, consequently, the whole thing is extraodinarily uninvolving. It is extremely simplistic but is not suitable for children (gruesome punishments & rape). I bought this on the basis that, as the first of a long series, this would at least be a good story, well told. It is not. I really cannot understand why anyone would have bought the books - thus my title. Recently finished "Left hand of God" and "Last Four Things" which, by contrast are excellent; suggest you get those
