An Anonymous Girl

The Electrifying Thriller From The Bestselling Authors Of The Wife Between Us

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

From Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the authors of the top ten bestseller The Wife Between Us, comes An Anonymous Girl - an electrifying novel about doubt, passion and deadly obsession . . .

Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive, and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr Shields may know what she’s thinking . . . and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what is real in her life, and what is one of Dr Shields’s manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

From Publishers Weekly

22 October 2018 – Struggling Manhattan makeup artist Jessica Farris impulsively decides to chase some quick cash by lying her way into an NYU psychiatrist's study of ethics and morality, no less in this slickly twisty psychological thriller from bestsellers Hendricks and Pekkanen (The Wife Between Us). Still shaky after a disturbing #MeToo encounter with a top theatrical producer that dashed her dream of doing stage makeup, the 28-year-old laps up the supportive attention from impossibly chic and self-confident Dr. Lydia Shields, whose second-person narrative alternates with Jessica's first person. So when the therapist starts to enlist her in increasingly dicey real-life role-playing assignments, including trying to pick up specific targets, such as a stranger in a hotel bar, Jess pushes aside her doubts and goes along until she hears some information too alarming to ignore about the fate of Dr. Shields's previous prot g . The page-turner's second half whizzes along at a furious pace, exploiting the dual perspectives for maximum tension. Though some of the gasp-worthy final twists require substantial character flip-flops, it's a relatively minor sacrifice for major league suspense.

Disappointing

I read this book having not heard of the author (duo) but was let down by the ending which was a bit of a non-event, which I personally felt was an obvious part of the plot rather than any sort of twist, much like ‘Girl on a train’ which people raved about but I also thought was very disappointing and lacked suspense.

‘An anonymous girl’ is bit of a shame as the book had potential as the concept could be quite interesting.

I was also shocked by the amount of typos and misprints / missing words especially as one of the writers was previously an editor.

An easy read if you are not looking for something too challenging.

A real page turner

4.5 *

This book had me hooked from the start. It was my first book by this collaboration (Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen) but I’ll definitely be reading their first novel ‘The Wife Between Us’ now.

This is the story of Jessica, a heroine carrying the guilt of something that happened in the past who seized the opportunity to make some cash by taking part in a psychological study. It doesn’t take long for the psychologist to unravel Jessica’s mind and use it to her own advantage and so begins a series of gripping twists and turns.

A must read for fans if Gone Girl and The Girl on The Train.

I received an ARC of The Anonymous Girl in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and the authors for the chance to read this wonderful book.
