Publisher Description
Bear Sanctuary is a factual account of the rescue and care of captive bears in Romania and the creation of a forest bear sanctuary to give them a safe, natural environment where they can live out their remaining years.
The book describes how the bears were rescued from a lifetime of suffering in small cages and run-down zoos, the veterinary care they received and how they learned to live like bears again in large forested areas where they are free to climb trees, swim in the water pools and even hibernate in natural dens. The sanctuary is managed by a Romanian animal protection group and all the bears in their care have been legally confiscated by the Romanian authorities.
The book also contains information about other bear sanctuaries around the world. Illustrated with over 90 photos.
Customer Reviews
Very moving stories, told with a beautiful honesty
The author tells a powerful story of these magnificent creatures, but in such a straightforward, matter of fact way it is utterly disarming!
Clearly someone who cares deeply about the subject, and has spent a lot of time living and loving the stories himself, Victor Watkins has been generous with the details but critically, not to the point that the book stops being a real good read.
A pleasure for anyone who cares about bears ... And those that didn't think they did before they read this! Enjoy - and share.
