A New York Times bestseller
'A sensation ... a rollicking tale well told' - The Times
At the heart of Born to Run lies a mysterious tribe of Mexican Indians, the Tarahumara, who live quietly in canyons and are reputed to be the best distance runners in the world; in 1993, one of them, aged 57, came first in a prestigious 100-mile race wearing a toga and sandals. A small group of the world's top ultra-runners (and the awe-inspiring author) make the treacherous journey into the canyons to try to learn the tribe's secrets and then take them on over a course 50 miles long.
With incredible energy and smart observation, McDougall tells this story while asking what the secrets are to being an incredible runner. Travelling to labs at Harvard, Nike, and elsewhere, he comes across an incredible cast of characters, including the woman who recently broke the world record for 100 miles and for her encore ran a 2:50 marathon in a bikini, pausing to down a beer at the 20 mile mark.

Born to Run
I'm so sad to eventually put this book down... and it's thanks to these incredible pages that I have rediscovered the secret of running as I did when I was 18... and it makes so much sense, I have gone from barely being able to run, to FEELING like I float, and wanting to run forever... I will be forever grateful to the author, as I now can't wait to leave the house and run without shoes every day...

I loved this book. If you love running can't imagine not liking it- it's crying to be made into a film. Full of interesting characters, locations and facts. Reads like a work of fiction, I'm guessing bits are exaggerated for effect but it's poetic licence because the end result is a book that you will want to pass on. I originally purchased on the iPad but had to buy in paperback as wanted all my friends to read it and pass it on. Realise haven't really said much about content but wouldn't want to spoil it!
This book is quality
No over profound cryptic pretentious description here. The book is just quality and very very enjoyable to read.
