Description

THE NO.1 BESTSELLER. Special Agent Will Trent finds himself forced to confront his past. From the bestselling author of Fallen.

A woman is found brutally murdered in a sordid Atlanta apartment.

Her blood-soaked body bears a chilling similarity to a woman found dead almost 40 years earlier.

Soon Special Agent Will Trent finds himself returning to the home he grew up in, and a past that could hold the clue to the killings...

Publishers Weekly Review

28 May 2012 – At the outset of Slaughter’s tense fourth thriller to combine characters from her two crime series (after 2011’s Fallen), life is running smoothly for agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as he eases into a new relationship with Dr. Sara Linton, until the abduction of 19-year-old college student Ashleigh Snyder. When his GBI mentor and boss, Deputy Director Amanda Wagner, specifically tells him to stay away from the case, Will knows something is wrong. Flashback to 1975, when Amanda is a rookie in the Atlanta Police Department, along with Evelyn Mitchell, who later becomes the mother of Faith, Will’s GBI partner. The APD at that time is rife with racism and sexism, but Amanda and Evelyn refuse to abandon the case of several missing prostitutes, despite warnings from other (male) detectives to back off. Slaughter seamlessly shifts between past and present, while her usual attentive eye for character and carefully metered violence is on full display. 6 to 8–city author tour.

I've been reading Karin Slaughter for over ten years, and have even been drawn to re-read her exquisite works. Amazing characterisation and plotting/sub-plotting...you live and breathe every word; feel every roller coaster turn of emotion; never cease to be thrilled to the very last page...never mind Fifty Shades of Grey...this is more than fifty shades of raw, gut reaching talent...I have grieved for and with her characters...and echoes of each story stay with me...I guarantee I'll be thinking of Criminal, long after the last stunning page has been turned, and yearning for more.
Just finished and every word I wrote above is true...so not disappointed in anyway.

Disappointing.

I have been a fan of Karin Slaughter for many years and have always found myself immersed in her books.

In my opinion, I felt something was missing from this book and it took me a very long while to get into it.

Worth a read if you are a fan. If not, I'd say it wasn't really worth the price.
