Fever of the Bone

(Tony Hill and Carol Jordan, Book 6)

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

You should have been a detective. If there's one thing the last year has proved, it's how good you are at finding things out. Not simple things. Hard things. Things that nobody is supposed to be able to find out. Things that are buried so deep nobody even thinks twice about them. The sort of things that turn people's lives inside out once they're exposed.'
Meet Tony Hill's most twisted adversary - a killer with a shopping list of victims, a killer unmoved by youth and innocence, a killer driven by the most perverted of desires. The murder and mutilation of teenager Jennifer Maidment is horrific enough on its own. But it's not long before Tony realises it's just the start of a brutal and ruthless campaign that's targeting an apparently unconnected group of young people. Struggling with the newly-awakened ghosts of his own past and desperate for distraction in his work, Tony battles to find the answers that will give him personal and professional satisfaction in his most testing investigation yet.

Customer Reviews

I just love this series!

Another gripping and imaginative book. Can't wait for the next.

A 5 Star Read

Fever of the Bone is a masterfully written crime thriller, that grabbed my attention from the first page, and wouldn't allow me to put it down.

I began reading the Tony Hill series while a close relative was critically ill; the series of books got me through many long hours of sitting in the ICU, and as I finished one book, I couldn't wait to read the next. Each book is skilfully written, with a quality that as a reader, draws you right into the storyline; the characters are so well crafted and humanly fallible, that I felt as though I knew them. Fever of the Bone didn't disappoint; on the contrary, it kept me absorbed in the twisting tale, and turning pages.

Authors of crime thrillers usually seem to have a formula for writing; understanding how the author's mind works, is as satisfying to me as reading the book itself. Unfortunately, once I've read their first book, I have already stepped inside the mind of the author and within a chapter of their second book, I see the entire storyline predictably unfolding. Val McDermid has proven to be the exception. With Fever of the Bone, she kept me hanging on to every page, and guessing right up until the end. This book delivered more than my expectation, and still managed to leave me wanting more.
