The life and times of Jim Morrison of the Doors by Alan Graham, brother-in-law of the deceased singer.
I remember Jim Morrison. By Alan Graham.
A wonderfully insightful, and frankly, refreshing account of the REAL Jim Morrison. This book gives the reader the feeling that they've been invited into the Morrison/Graham family for a short while, and accepted as rightfully belonging there. The candid and conversational style in which it is written, makes every detail vivid and easy to visualise.
The real beauty of this book, is that it has been written by members of the subject's loving family, not by strangers with an eye on a quick buck, and/or a limited knowledge. Their love and respect for the subject shines brilliantly through.
A compelling and rewarding read which will stay with you, long after you have finished it.
Captivating and wholistic account of Jim Morrison
I really enjoyed this account from someone who probably spent a lot less time with Jim in the spotlight but from the vantage point of a family member, someone who was close to him and did not hold the constraints that fame appears to bring.
He provides a rather compelling and idyllic image of Jim which would not be seen in or reflected by the papers. Whether this portrays the whole of Morrison's self in this book, it still sheds light on Jim in a way you would not of necessarily anticipated.
The only downside was that at points it was rather difficult to follow. It is rather bitty moving from one fleeting story to another in a space of a few lines making it seem hurried or added purely to fill the space in between lines!
Yet it does not detract from a fascinating view on Jim Morrison's life.
