This is a lovely story about actress Savannah Payne. At just 27 she has been replaced on her latest film by a girl five years younger and 25 lbs. lighter, and has returned to her bolt hole in New Zealand to lick her wounds, lose weight and learn her lines for a make or break film part she hopes to get. Unfortunately her cousin Nate (his story is told in Hide Your Heart) has rented her house to an old friend for six weeks. Glen Cooper, a lawyer, has rented the house for peace and quiet whilst he completes a novel, something he has always wanted to do. As a young student he had rescued Savannah from a bad situation, and had fallen for her; unfortunately she had been drunk, and didn't remember him.
The first half of the book is about her varied attempts to persuade him to leave her house, some of which are very amusing. Then his unhappy teenage nephew Tom comes to stay with him for a while, and he and Savannah get on very well, and their relationship is the catalyst that shows her the way to a new career.
The relationship between Glen and Savannah is a slow burn love story, neither admitting their feelings for each other for much of the book. It is sad when he lets her go back to her Hollywood career, although he buys her the flight tickets, making her take a detour to England that sorts out part of her life that has always been painful for her. The end of the book is very satisfying. All in all, this is a very well written, satisfying and believable story, very emotional, and well worth reading.
