Description

The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare's newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.
It's been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.
Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn't lead her in treacherous directions…
Making things even more complicated, Julian's brother Mark-who was captured by the faeries five years ago-has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind-and they need the Shadowhunters' help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn't recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?
Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare's Dark Artifices series.

From Publishers Weekly

15 February 2016 – Clare returns to her Shadowhunters world with this enjoyable if drawn-out tale. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, it centers on Emma Carstairs, a Shadowhunter adopted by members of the Blackthorn family who, like her, were orphaned in the Dark War five years earlier. Emma has become parabatai or sworn companion to Julian, the oldest Blackthorn boy living at the local Institute, where Shadowhunters live and train. When humans and faeries start turning up dead, covered in mysterious runes like those found on the bodies of Emma's parents, she and Julian investigate, accompanied by Julian's disoriented older brother Mark, recently returned after having been stolen by the faeries years before. Having been gradually revealed in nine previous novels, the Shadowhunter universe is complex, jargon-rich, and a bit unwieldy, but Clare's well-developed protagonists (each a fragile combination of heroic warrior and teenage neurotic), pell-mell action sequences, complicated family dynamics, and fascinating magic system continue to engage. This first volume in the Dark Artifices trilogy should easily please Clare's existing fans, but newcomers will want to begin with the Mortal Instruments. Ages 14–up.

Customer Reviews

Lady Midnight

OMG can I be the first to say! Eeeek! New book! I've read the mortal instruments and clockwork series and I loved them! I'm sure that this book would be just as awesome as the last 2 series! Can't wait to read it. Love u Cassandra Clare you are now one of my top authors ever!

BRILLIANT

Fantastic forbidden love story, has everything you want in a novel. True genius.

Unequivocally, world-shatteringly, perfect.

As majestically brilliant as can be expected by the fantasy queen, Cassie Clare (yes, we're totally on nickname basis)

I have been completely captivated by all of her unbelievable novels and I am unconditionally in love with the Shadowhunting (yes, that's officially a word) world. All the complex story lines, plot twists and lovable characters are what makes Clare's novels more than words on a page; they're adventures that completely enthral you until before you know it, the adventure ends.

Also, if you haven't read her other books - GO DO IT NOW YOU SHAMEFUL MUNDANES. (We also got some perfect cameos and visits from our favourite characters in the TMI and TID series, so worry not; your insatiable need has been sated)

READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW, MY FELLOW NEPHILIM FRIENDS.

That is all.
