A story of first love and second chances from the bestselling author of Love Rules

The sleepwalker.

By day, Petra Flint is a talented jeweller working in a lively London studio. By night, she sleepwalks. She has 40 carats of the world's rarest gemstone under her mattress but it's the skeletons in her closet that make it difficult for her to rest.

The insomniac.

At one time a promising song-writer, Arlo Savidge now teaches music at a boys' boarding school in North Yorkshire. He assumes he's happy with his isolated lifestyle. But, like Petra, ghosts from his past disturb his sleep.

Putting the past to bed.

Petra and Arlo loved each other from afar during their schooldays. Now, seventeen years later, in a tiny sweetshop one rainy day, they stand before each other once more. Could this be their second chance?

About the author

Freya North gave up a Ph.D. to write her first novel, Sally. For four years she turned deaf ears to parents and friends who pleaded with her to "get a proper job". She went on the dole and did a succession of freelance and temping jobs. Five publishers entered a bidding war for the book, and her first novel, Sally, was published to great acclaim. Her subsequent books, Chloe, Polly, Cat, Fen, Pip , Love Rules, Home Truths and Pillow Talk have all proved bestsellers.

From Publishers Weekly

02 May 2011 – A couple gets a second chance at love in this contemporary romance set in London. Jewelry designer Petra Flint is surprised to hear a song on the radio written by Arlo Savidge, the boy she once sweetly loved. Arlo, now a music teacher, also hears the song and is reminded of Petra. When their paths cross and they reconnect, their reminiscing blossoms into a new, deeper, more meaningful romance, but their happiness is threatened by the secrets that they try to keep from each other. The slow-building story, inconsistent writing style, and mishmash of random topics music, sleepwalking, tanzanite make it hard to initially connect with the characters, but readers who make the effort will be rewarded with a sentimental and satisfying story.
