'Salem's Lot

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

‘Turn off the television – in fact, why don’t you turn off all the lights except for the one over your favourite chair? – and we’ll talk about vampires here in the dim. I think I can make you believe in them.’
Stephen King, from the Introduction
’Salem’s Lot is a small New England town with the usual quota of gossips, drinkers, weirdos and respectable folk. Of course there are tales of strange happenings – but not more than in any other town its size.
Ben Mears, a moderately successful writer, returns to the Lot to write a novel based on his early years, and to exorcise the terrors that have haunted him since childhood. The event he witnessed in the house now rented by a new resident. A newcomer with a strange allure. A man who causes Ben some unease as things start to happen: a child disappears, a dog is brutally killed – nothing unusual, except the list starts to grow.
Soon surprise will turn to bewilderment, bewilderment to confusion and finally to terror…

The greatest horror writer in the world at his best. Download this book now! Great story, great characters!

Great book!

This is a hidden gem in kings list of great horrors! A brilliant story that is gripping, with kings natural talent for creating tension and atmosphere at it's best! A must read!

Utterly brilliant.

This book is, as King says, King's coming-out party. Finding inspiration in pop culture and classic literature, King has sculpted a tale that stands the test of time and one in which, importantly, characters rule. King has always been best when writing what I like to call 'stealth genre stories' (stories that are simply character driven dramas that lay their cards on the table about half way through, after we know and love the characters, and seem all the more real and believable for it) and here he excels. You know a writer has succeeded in his work when instead of being completely content when the story is over, the reader simply finds it hard to say goodbye to the characters. Bravo.

Highly recommended.
