Standard dog training has long advocated the use of force choke collars, sharp smacks, harsh language. Fennell, a dog trainer in England for 30 years, wants to change all that. Expanding upon the theories of horse trainer Monty Roberts (the basis for The Horse Whisperer), Fennell believes one can best train dogs by emulating natural behaviors, that is, by treating them as they would treat each other in the wild. After Fennel's dog Purdey went manic, injured Fennell's young children and had to be euthanized, she was fearful of owning a dog again. Well......I read this book to try to understand the behaviour of my young whippet. I have learned much and am beginning to put some of the ideas from this very easy to read book into practice. I have realised it is ME that needs training, not the dog!! Wish me luck Jan.
The only book you will ever need to understand your dog
I am novice to the owning dogs and so eventually started noticing behavioural changes in my newly acquired 8 year old border collie after 2 weeks of ownership he started becoming boisterous and sometimes unpredictable. I paid hundreds of pounds on dog trainers with little effect. After reading this amazing book and applying its methods within an hour I noticed a massive improvement in my dog, Absolutely amazing results without harsh a cruel interventions you learn to communicate in a different language one the dog understands.
